The first weekend of Summer break

Our first weekend of summer break we decided to take a trip to the Oregon coast. We went to Harris Beach in Brookings. David used to go there while he was in high school and body board. After four hours of driving windy roads we finally made it.

We stopped in Grants Pass for a half and hour to visit with David's parents. David's mom is doing a little better. She got some good medicine that really seems to help.

The drive to Harris Beach goes by the Redwood National Forest. What a sight! We didn't stop because we thought we would be going back during the weekend, but it was awesome.

The last time we went to the coast we had Carson, Callie, and George. It was the summer after David graduated from Weber State and we were living with his parents.

After getting to the beach we went to check out our camp ground. It was just up the hill from the beach. It was a nice camp ground but a little small. We got to working on setting up the tent. It was getting late and other campers were settling down for the night. Our kids seemed so restless and loud from being in the car half of the day. The kids had snacked a lot so David went to get something more filling to eat. I finished putting the rain fly in the tent, with some help from Carson, and put the kids in the car watching a movie. I know its cheating when your camping. After the tent was done it was about 10:30pm. I gave the kids a snack and put them down. David had gotten back and had Lucy outside of the tent. She was sitting on a camping chair and started to get off when she saw me come out of the tent. She fell off of the chair and her foot landed in the fire pit. We ran and got her up and got some ice to the back of her leg. David quickly gave her a blessing. Seeing how bad it was David then drove into town with Lucy looking for the hospital. He saw a police officer and asked him. He said the nearest one was 30 minutes north. So David and Lucy went up there. He said she slept the whole way up there and on the way back they jammed out to the High School Musical soundtrack(Lucy's favorite). Back at the camp, I was a wreck. I didn't know what to do, I just sat around waiting. Around midnight I figured I better blow up the air mattress that we brought. The other campers probably didn't care for it but I muffled the sound a bit with a towel. At 1:30am they rolled into camp. Here is a picture of her burn. I am just grateful that it wasn't worse than it was.

The next day was overcast and rainy. The forecast said a 50% chance of rain in the afternoon. I didn't know that meant over 50% of the day it would rain. For breakfast we had some goodies from the bakery that David's parent own and operate. They get up at 3 am every morning to bake. Around noon David took Lucy back to the hospital with Callie to get her dressing changed and to talk to the doctor. The rest of us hung out in the tent and the car trying to avoid the rain. When they got back we loaded everyone up and went down the hill to the beach.

Building a sand castle,
with Lucy's help. After leaving the beach we drove down by the harbor. We parked there and ate a snack while we watched the seagulls. We had a loaf of bread in the car so we started feeding one of them. In about 10 seconds there were about 30-40 of them. This one came and hovered over by my window to get some. I held my hand out one time to get one to hover and a bird from the roof of the car snagged it right out of my hand. It scared me so bad I screamed. We had to keep the window rolled up half way so we didn't get attacked. We threw whole pieces out to watch them all fight over it. After that we headed back to camp. I had some laundry to do. We brought clothes to go to church in Grants Pass on our way back but Ginger dropped her root beer in the bag and soaked all the clothes. Our camp after an afternoon and night of rain. It was wet but a good experience. We'll be more prepared next time.Ginger, the morning after our rainy night. Lucy is still sleeping in the tent. After our things dried up, which took awhile, we packed up camp and headed for the beach. Since we got such a late start in leaving we decided we would miss church this week.Sunday was a beautiful day. We played in the sand for a while and enjoyed the sunshine that we hadn't felt much of.
On the way back we drove through the Redwood Forest again and headed to Grants Pass to have dinner with David's parents. On the way, about a half and hour from GP, Ginger vomits in David's truck. The joys of parenting! After dinner and a couple more hours of driving we made it home. It is so nice to sleep in your own bed again.

Memorial Day Weekend

We had David's brother Matt, his wife Nicki, and their two daughters come visit. They are on their way to Korea. Matt had been going to language school for the Army, in Monterey, CA, to learn Chinese. He had gone there a few years back and learned Korean. They should be in Korea for 1 to 2 years. Looks like David and I will have to go and visit where we got married. Nicki, Maizy, Matt, and Hazel

We also had David's parents come down from Grants Pass, OR. David's mom got sick about a year and a half ago and hasn't gone farther than an hour away from home. And that was to get supplies for their bakery. So we were very excited to have them here.

Summer entertainment

We finally did it. We got a trampoline. It has already proven its purpose by wearing out the kids. They love it.
You can't beat a dip in COLD water!

Then Dad came to save the day!
