Chanticleer

About a month ago David decided to take the boys down to Livermore, CA and see the a professional male a cappella ensemble, Chanticleer. He was able to get some cheap tickets and he could use the company condo in Dublin, CA. They were all really excited to go. I'm sure the concert was a wonderful display of talent. Carson and George didn't seem that excited anymore. They were ready to go at intermission. They made it through the rest of the night and were able to meet some of the singers after the performance. One that they met was a bass singer.(He is the one with the waxed mustache in the picture) Upon meeting him, Carson asked what his lowest note was that he could hit. That is when Mr. Bass would puff out his chest and thrill these two boys with a low, low note. But no, that isn't what he did. He said, "If you want to hear it you'll have to buy our Christmas CD and listen to the 5th song during the 2nd verse." What?? Come on dude! David was even holding in his hand a different cd that he had bought. I don't think we will be seeing them again in concert.

Spring Choir Concert

Carson and Callie had their Spring choir concert this past Wednesday. Wednesday is usually my night for Young Womens, and another leader has a child in the choir, so we had all the YW go to the concert. They were able to mark off a goal for their personal progress.

The concert was nice. Its really funny to watch all these 8, 9, 10, and 11 year olds try to stay still. Carson had a moment when he buttoned his top bottom and pretended to be Joseph Smith by lifting his collar. He played with his collar during a whole song. I so badly wanted to go up and "straighten" him out.

I video taped the whole thing on our camcorder. During one of the breaks between songs I was focusing on Callie. The girl behind her in the picture below with the dot on her head was talking about Callie behind her back. Of course I couldn't hear anything but you could tell by the girl's hand motions she was not happy with Callie. The girl was talking to a girl next to her about pulling her hair and really glaring at Callie. I wish it was digital so I could share it. In the car on the way home I was questioning Callie to see what had happen. I didn't tell her anything about what I had seen. She said that the girl was singing the wrong chorus and so the "teacher" that Callie is corrected the girl and I guess the girl didn't like it.

At the end of the concert there was a table of finger treats and lemonade. I made some brownies.

NO Ginger! You can't go to Vegas!

Well, we all know Ginger is a romantic. She dreams of true loves first kiss and being swept off her feet by her Prince Charming.

Yesterday while waiting for George's game to start a classmate of Callie's(he is co-class president with Callie) and Carson's friend(he is on Carson's baseball team) came to play with the kids. Kale, the friend, said a sweet "Hi" to Lucy, like you would to a toddler.

A couple minutes later he did it, he threw out his line and hooked Ginger. He said, "You look cute Ginger." She turned and looked at me with a huge grin of surprise, and walked away. Then she told me again of what he had said. After about 15 minutes and still playing outside she comes back to me and tells me that he spoke to her again. She said, "Carson's friend asked me what I was doing and I didn't say anything and walked away, I am still shy(said with a little giggle)."

She is too funny. I feel so blessed to be her mother and I look forward to seeing what lucky guy gets her heart.

Carson's fancy swinging

Carson never played baseball before this Spring. He goes to the trials to see what team he'll go on. He gets up to home plate, swings the bat hard, taps his shoes to get the dirt loose, and adjusts his hat. I'm surprised he didn't spit. Anyway, here is Carson in a game from last week showing some of his fancy moves and sliding into 1st base.

Fashionable Ginger

I made some old overalls into a dress for Ginger. She was excited to accessorize the outfit. The earrings are from Mr. Potato Head and the belt from her brothers baseball outfit. I think I'm gonna cut a few more inches off the bottom.

Wee Lemon Cakes

For a combined activity on Wednesday night we had a Mother's Social with the mothers and their son or daughter in honor of Mother's day. We had tables nicely set with tea cups and platers of goodies. I didn't have my camera there or I would have pictures. We played a game like the Newlywed game. It was fun.

I made these for the occasion. I just love the look and smell of fresh citrus. When I made it, I doubled it because I made some for David's work as well.

Wee Lemon Cakes

1 pkg yellow cake mix

1½ pounds confectioners sugar

strained juice of 2 lemons

grated rind of 2 lemons

strained juice of 2 oranges

grated rind of 2 oranges

Mix cake according to directions except omit 3 tablespoons water. Drop by teaspoon into greased, floured miniature cupcake pans. Bake at 375ยบ for 10 to 12 minutes.

Combine remaining ingredients thoroughly. Remove cakes when cooked and immediately drop cakes into mixture with slotted spoon and place on waxed paper(you could put them on a cooling rack if you don't want them to soak up so much juice). Makes 4 or 5 dozen.

He loves to keep me on my toes.

When we were first married I came home from Enrichment meeting to find that David had shaved his head bald.

Seven years ago I sent David to the store to get some diapers and he came back with diapers and a new computer.

This past Tuesday my cell phone died early in the afternoon and I didn't have a car charger, so I couldn't talk to David till we got home from practices and choir at 7:30pm. Arriving home a few minutes after us, he then showed me where he had gone for the two hours since he got off work.

He bought a McNab puppy. Her name is Laika(like a). Carson got to name her so he chose the name of the first dog to go into outerspace. I didn't even know that a dog had gone into space. She had an owner for about a month and was called Sis or Sister so we gave her Sis as a middle name. Laika Sis(like a sis), we just call her Laika.

I'm it again!

My friend Kamy decided to tag me back this time with a different questionnaire.

Ten years ago... In the summer of 1998 we were living in a basement apartment under Kamy in Provo, UT. David had just started BYU and Carson was crawling around. I was feeling the thrills of morning sickness with Callie.

Things on my Monday to do list:
1. Clean up the house from Sunday
2. Get baseball uniforms ready for games
3. Go to the bank
4. Go to Carson's baseball game
5. Welcome home my husband who went to Sacramento on Sunday for business

What would I do if I had a billion dollars:
1. Give a million to each of my family members
2. Give a million to each of my fellow bloggers
3. Invest some
4. Buy some land and build our dream house
5. Put some away for our future and our children's future
6. Donate to the church and other charities

3 of my bad habits
1. Not drinking enough water.
2. Eating after the kids go to bed(ice cream).
3. Going to bed to (too) late and not getting up as early as I should.

Places I've lived...
Utah x3, Kentucky, Florida, Germany, New Jersey, North Carolina x2, Texas, Colorado, Idaho, Tennessee, Terceira, Sao Miguel, Santa Iria De Azoia (near Lisbon, Portugal), Korea, Oregon x2, Montana, Nebraska, Missouri, and California.

Jobs I've had...
1. filed invoices for Bolle' America Inc. in Denver, CO
2. worked the front counter at a dry cleaners
3. daycare worker
4. server at Shoney's
5. babysitter
6. receptionist
7. worked at my in-law's bakery
8. homemaker

5 things most people don't know about me...
1. I attend cosmetology school for about a month when I was barely pregnant with Carson
2. At the end of my senior year of high school each department gave an award to a student and
I got the one from the Home Economics Dept.
3. I fell asleep on the beach once and got really burnt on the back of my legs. They were purple. I also passed out to the ground from heat exhaustion because of it.
4. I severed my Achilles tendon in the 8th grade while horsin' around at a church dance. My cousin and I were taking turns pushing each other on the thing that carries the portable stage. I jumped off to soon once and the front edge ran into the back of my heal. After surgery I spent 1 month in a full leg cast and 2 months in a half leg cast. To this day it is hard for me to walk in front of a grocery cart, for fear of being hit.
5. One of my companions on my mission told me she hated me. That was a long and unproductive day!
6. I thought of one more. While at Ricks I had a roommate from Oregon that I thought was a
little strange and I said I would never go to Oregon. Then I met David who is from Oregon
and I've lived there twice. Never say never!! I've said the same thing of California before too.

Thanks Kamy, that was fun. I can't believe its been ten years since we lived next to each other.

I am going to pass this on to whomever would like to do it.

Yum!

The other day while eating some white chocolate, which I love, I remembered a treat that I would have on my mission. Ice cream covered in white chocolate. Yum!

Baseball practice

Look at Mount Shasta in the back ground! Awesome!

After school yesterday, while waiting for Callie and Carson to finish up with choir, George, Ginger, Lucy, and I went to practice some baseball. I thought this was a cute picture of Ginger. She looks tough! She is no where near tough. She said to me later in the day, "its going to be so sad." I asked her, "What's going to be sad?". She replied, "Its going to be so sad when I move away and get married." A little later she says, "I wonder what my husband is going to look like." Although she has professed to me that she is going to marry Jonah from Lincoln, NE. There is no stopping this girl. Boys watch out!
We also found a frog in the leaves beside our house. We couldn't catch it though. It really is a small frog that I zoomed in on but check out its left hind leg, how it stretches.

"Wacky Weather"

George had his 1st grade musical "Wacky Weather" this last Thursday. I really enjoyed watching George because he refuses to preform anything at home. He feels there are to many performers at home already; Ginger and Lucy. George did an awesome job with the actions and singing.George is on the back row. David did his hair that morning. He was so cooperative that morning. No crying or whining about being tired, he just got into his Sunday clothes and packed a bag with extra clothes to change into. He was excited for the day.

Candid shot.

Here are the girls lovin' the camera.

Done and Delivered!

The Young Women finished the quilts and we delivered them to the Nursing Home this past Wednesday. We shared some songs with the residents and some delicious bread pudding. These two pictures are either side of our 1st quilt. One of the YW had a mishap with the scissors and thankfully it was right in the middle so we did a little repairing with a patch.

----------------------------------------------------

These two are either sides of our 2nd quilt. It was made from the left over fabric that we had cut.

------------------------------------------------

These are either sides of our last quilt. I like the colors in this one the best. They all turned out really nice though.

Thanks Maizie for all your help!
