Ministering week
Our stake at church dedicates the 3rd full week of every month to ministering. The week is dedicated to serving others, doing our home teaching and visiting teaching, helping in our community, going on splits with the missionaries and so on. During that week there are no activities unless they are some type of service. In October Carson went with the youth group serve dinner at the Tacoma Rescue Mission. He said they buttered a bunch of bread for those coming, cleaned up, and then served over 300 meals. He served the egg salad. What a great experience for all of them. They got the t-shirt below to keep.
We'll have to go back some time as a family.

"I'm bored"
Last week George came to me and said he was bored. I'm sure there was something to clean but I decided to give him a different assignment. I told him to write me a 3 paragraph paper on the importance of eating green beans. This is what he came up with. It wasn't quite 3 paragraphs but some good effort.

Carson's deepest desires
To read this you probably have to click on it. This was an assignment for school. I love to hear what my children dream about.

The wrestler
This past fall Carson enjoyed 7th grade flag football. Now he is taking a shot at wrestling. Don't let his facial expressions fool you. He's as soft as a kitten. Or is he?
We had to get a shot of the singlet.
After a couple days at practice Carson's coach informed him he needed a hair cut. He didn't hesitate. Now if I had suggested a hair cut there would have been some debate. And I cut it the way he wanted it. I would have left more on top. We give and take!
Here is the ton of hair from all 3 boys, David, Carson, and George. It was way past hair cut time for them.

My mother
I love my mother dearly. We all do some crazy things in our lives and here is one that she did. In May of 2009 my little sister Nancy got married in Manti, UT. Manti is an hour and a half away from where my parents live. The day before the wedding my parents were going down to stay the night with Nancy and my sister Diannah. That day before the wedding we were driving by the "share the bounty" stand near my parent's home where we found a bag of rhubarb. A "share the bounty" stand is a place that people put extra produce that they have to share with others that can use it. The rhubarb was beautiful. Mom decided before she left to go to Manti that night she was gonna make some rhubarb pies, which she has never made before in her life. So with wedding plans happening and so many family members in town she did it. She made 2 beautiful, delicious rhubarb pies. She took them out of the oven then walked out the door to head to Manti.

Movie quote
"Mabel, my six foot dove."
*We just watched this movie for the first time and couldn't pass up this quote. My grandmother's name was Mabel and she was about 6ft.

The kids venture
The kids have talked of having a lemonade stand for a long time but I''m a party pooper. With kids and making lemonade I just see a mess. So, I told Callie to help me look for good prices on soda and bottled water, and she can sell it for a little profit. She jumped right on it and had fun setting up a little business. George, Ginger, and Lucy loved helping her. They made a little spare change to enjoy some summer fun. It was a good learning experience for them too.

The tetherball maniac
One of Callie's friends told her mom that "Callie is a tetherball maniac". Well, here's proof. In California, where we lived, tetherball was a competative part of recess. And competition runs in Callie's veins. On the playground, there would be a line of kids wanting to play. But to move up the line someone had to beat the person in the front of the line. They had to beat the #1 position. Callie and George would come home daily and tell me who was at the top and how far they had gotten that day. Carson play wall-ball more than tetherball.
Since her sprained finger she is taking a break from playing. But she'll be back!!!

Cousin Jacob
My brother, Curtis, his oldest son came out from Wisconsin to visit family Utah during Strawberry Days in PG. Curtis's family is actually living in Alaska but they were visiting other family in Wisconsin while Curtis was in Oman. Here are a few pictures that his parents haven't seen yet. We had fun visiting and playing with cousin Jacob.

Dad and Mom
Here is my dad and mom at the PG Strawberry Days rodeo. Oh, and there is Ginger and Carson on the other side of my dad. The other kids and I were on the bottom row because Liza was in the stroller. That only meant we got more manure mixed dirt in our srawberries and cream. Mom was a trooper, sporting her black boot on one of her feet. Can't remember which one? She has had her foot in a boot or brace since April 22nd. She had surgery on the 27th of July, then wore a cast for 8 weeks. She is back to a brace again till its all healed. She had some messed up tendons. Anyway, the rodeo was fun and a great treat. It is fun to see my dad enjoying his roots.
P.S. And we voted today!
